Testimonials

See what they’re saying.

Our happy customers have a lot to say about our products and services.

I am writing on behalf of Nanoramic to wholeheartedly recommend the University of Michigan’s Battery Lab. Our collaboration with the lab has been pivotal in advancing our R&D efforts, and we can attest to the lab’s exceptional capabilities.
Engaging in multiple projects with the Battery Lab, we consistently experienced their commitment to excellence and innovative solutions.

Under the leadership of Greg Less, the lab’s team showcased expertise in slurry characterization, electrode fabrication, and cell assembly, using cutting-edge technologies.

Notably, the lab’s ability to tailor services to our specific needs facilitated seamless integration of our requirements, crucial for successful project outcomes. The skilled researchers and staff demonstrated not only technical prowess but also a deep understanding of practical applications, ensuring precise and efficient results.
We value the lab’s commitment to confidentiality, offering an IP-protected environment for prototyping. This assurance has been pivotal for Nanoramic to prototype and test new concepts securely.

Additionally, the lab’s capability to work in a humidity-controlled environment proved essential for maintaining reliability and quality in our moisture-sensitive electrode prototypes.

In conclusion, we highly recommend the U-M Battery Lab to companies seeking top-notch R&D services. The lab’s expertise, professionalism, dedication, and unique facilities, including humidity control, make it an excellent choice for collaborative ventures. We are confident that any industry partner will benefit from the outstanding services provided by the lab.

We are fortunate to have the U-M Battery Lab in the area, as it provides us lab capabilities to evaluate battery materials in large cells that represent real life behavior. We have used their equipment and facilities for mixing, coating, stacking, and cell packaging.

Additionally, we used the Accelerating Rate Calorimetry equipment and preferred the ease of access and analytical flexibility of cycle test data afforded by the cloud-based Voltaiq interface.

The University of Michigan <Battery Lab> serves a vital link between our lab-scale and pilot-scale formulation development. The UMEI staff are always accommodating and provide an exceptional level of communication starting at slurry mixing and continues throughout the final cell cycling.

The Energy Institute facility is a key component as we obtain data that will translate to production-scale materials and systems.

Ford is an active user of the University of Michigan Battery Fabrication and Characterization Laboratory. The lab is an integral part of our ongoing advanced lithium-ion cell technology
evaluation effort.

It is a unique facility with state of the art pilot scale equipment and staff with the expertise required to successfully conduct larger-scale electrode and process experimentation. The ability to control key variables during coating and cell fabrication provides our Energy Storage Research Team with high confidence in results and allows us to accurately identify critical correlations.

In addition to the lab, U-M has capabilities and expertise to support research on a wide range of battery technologies and is a key resource to Ford and the entire industry.

Orbia completed a 2Ah stacked pouch design cell build in 2025.
We had heard of UM’s reputation for good quality, value, flexibility, and ability to test cells after the build.
The build went very well and we were able to fill, form, and complete 4C fast charge cycling on several cells with Orbia high performance electrolytes, while the remainder of dry stack pouches were sent to our technical center in Madison WI for performance testing.  We were able to be onsite for the entire week to see the whole process from start to finish and react in real time to any issues that arose.

UM was very flexible to accommodate multiple different cell performance testing protocols and the data provided was instrumental to advance our development project.  It also helped that UM is integrated with Voltaiq to make the data acquisition seamless.
Overall, we were really pleased with the whole process at UM and plan to be back for future projects.
