The University of Michigan Battery Lab offers a four-day battery course, which covers the fundamentals of battery cell manufacturing, giving you an understanding of energy storage technologies and teaching you the skills to scale up battery innovations at your organization.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on sessions in the Battery Lab, you will gain exposure to all aspects of building a battery from start to finish. The instructors teaching the course are battery experts from industry and the University of Michigan, with extensive real-world expertise.

Engineers, chemists, and materials scientists will benefit from this course, particularly those that work for companies developing batteries for a range of applications: automotive, consumer products, grid-scale storage, and more.

A Typical Schedule

  • Day 1: Intro to battery electrochemistry, design and safety
  • Day 2: Mixing and rheology, coating and calendaring
  • Day 3: Summary of battery testing equipment and protocols
  • Day 4: Overview of beyond Li-Ion technologies
